Michael S. Paul, Ph.D.
President & CEO
Dr. Paul is a co-founder and has served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Lineagen since its inception. Dr. Paul has been recognized as one of Utah’s leading venture entrepreneurs and was a Utah Governor’s Appointee to the Steering Committee for the Utah Technology Industry Commission. Prior to Lineagen, he was President and Chief Operating Officer of Lineagen Research Corporation, Vice President of Business Development at Huntsman Biotechnology Corporation and Director of Strategic Development at NPS Pharmaceuticals.
Dr. Paul has also worked at the University of Utah Technology Transfer Office where he participated in the marketing of University inventions to the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Dr. Paul is a licensed patent agent of the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Dr. Paul earned his B.A. from Colby College and his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry from the University of Utah.
Burt De Mill
Chief Commercialization Officer
Mr. De Mill is a veteran of the medical diagnostic space with a distinguished track record of sales growth achievements.
Prior to Lineagen, he served as Senior VP, Sales & Marketing with Genoptix, where he grew revenues from $4M to $184M and market share from <1% to 7% in less than five years. Mr. De Mill was formerly VP, U.S. Commercial Operations with Invitrogen Corporation; Vice President, Separations, North America with Amersham Biosciences; Vice President, U.S. Industrial Sales, Amersham Pharmacia Biotech; and Sales Director at Pharmacia Biotech prior to its merger with Amersham.
Mr. De Mill earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from the University of Maryland.
Gayland Moffat
Chief Operating Officer
Prior to joining Lineagen, Mr. Moffat was the Chief Executive Officer for Gayland Moffat Consulting. This consulting practice focused on providing operations and business improvement solutions to private and public organizations across the United States and Canada. Prior to his consulting, he served as the Chief Operations Officer for the EBusiness Solutions Group where he had primary operating responsibility for multiple startup technology companies focused on financial products, payments and web security solutions. Mr. Moffat also served as the Chief Operations Officer for Utah Transit Authority.
Mr. Moffat completed his education at the University of Utah with degrees in political science, psychology, and a Masters degree in Economics.
Mark F. Leppert, Ph.D.
Chief Science Advisor
Former Chair of Human Genetics, University of Utah
Dr. Leppert, Chief Science Advisor and a co-founder of Lineagen, has had a seminal influence on the study of human genetics, with leading contributions to the genetic maps currently in use worldwide for human gene identification. Dr. Leppert has identified disease-linked genes responsible for human epilepsies and macular degeneration, and has collaborated in the identification of numerous other genes that contribute to human diseases, including colon cancer, breast cancer, and cardiac arrhythmias.
Dr. Leppert earned his B.A. from Wesleyan College and his Ph.D. from the University of Minnesota.
Alex S. Lindell
Senior Director, Product Management
Mr. Lindell is a co-founder and the Senior Director of Product Management for Lineagen. Prior to founding Lineagen, Mr. Lindell worked in sales and product management for venture-backed Ensim Corporation in Sunnyvale, CA, Concentric Network in San Jose, CA (merged with Nextlink to form XO Communications), and VLSI Vision (acquired by ST Microelectronics). Mr. Lindell was also an Associate for the University Venture Fund, a student-managed venture capital firm located in Salt Lake City, UT.
Mr. Lindell earned a Bachelor’s in Genetics and Cell Molecular Biology from the University of Maryland and a MBA in Finance from the University of Utah.
Brian Garner
Director of Finance
Prior to joining Lineagen, Mr. Garner was employed by Ernst & Young in Palo Alto, California as a member of the firm’s Assurance and Advisory practice. During his tenure at Ernst & Young, Mr. Garner provided technical guidance to public and private corporations within the Life Sciences industry, including advising on SEC filings, initial public offerings, and M&A transactions, Mr. Garner was also the V.P. of Finance for Allegiance Inc, who was named the 58th fastest growing private company in America by Inc 500. During his time at Allegiance, the company completed multiple rounds of venture financing, an acquisition, and completed the sale of a corporate subsidiary.
Mr. Garner completed his Master’s degree in Professional Accounting from Brigham Young University and is a Certified Public Accountant.
